SUP / Kayak DIY E-Fin Plans - up to 4400W / 150km+ range
SUP / Kayak DIY e-Fin Plans
Video at approximately 25% power. At this power level, my 54 Ah battery lasts around 2.5 hours.
Build your own powerful, efficient and hydrodynamically optimized electric fin for a SUP or kayak.
The e-Fin is designed for easy 3D printing and straightforward assembly. It mounts directly into a standard US fin box, so the SUP or kayak itself remains unmodified. The complete drive and battery system can be removed whenever you want to return to normal paddling.
Depending on the selected components and settings, the system can deliver up to 4,400 W for strong acceleration, planing and wave jumping. At lower power, its efficient design enables exceptional cruising range — more than 150 km with a 54 Ah battery in the tested long-range configuration.
What exactly are you buying?
This is a digital DIY plans package, not a finished e-Fin.
After purchase, you will receive access to a private project folder containing the files and information needed to select suitable components, purchase the parts, 3D print the fin and assemble your own complete SUP or kayak e-Fin.
You can follow the recommended build or adapt it to your requirements by selecting a different battery capacity, motor, propeller, waterproof case or other compatible components.
What is included?
- Detailed illustrated build guide covering component selection, 3D printing, assembly, wiring and setup
- Complete bill of materials with recommended components, specifications, purchase links, approximate prices and photos
- Optimized 3D models for all printed components
- Ready-to-use G-code and Bambu Lab project files for easy and repeatable printing
- Recommended printing materials, orientations and settings for producing strong parts
- Detailed assembly and finished-project photos
- Wiring information for the battery, VESC, motor, receiver, charger and waterproof connectors
- Real-world performance measurements with different propellers and operating configurations
- Speed, power, efficiency and long-distance test results
- Future updates with new measurements, new propeller tests, additional photos, improvements, FAQs and further build details
- Direct support from me if you become stuck with component selection, printing, assembly, wiring or another part of the project
The documentation will continue to be expanded as additional measurements are completed, more propellers are tested and questions from builders reveal areas that need further explanation.
Designed for performance
- Compatible with standard US fin boxes
- Up to 4,400 W of available power
- Large, deep fin for improved stability and tracking
- Clean water flow around the propeller for better efficiency
- Supports larger and more efficient propellers
- Removable battery and drive system
- Easily replaceable lower fin section in case of damage
- Waterproof battery and VESC enclosure
- Remote control with integrated failsafe functions
- Configurable for powerful wave riding or efficient long-distance cruising
Typical build cost
The recommended high-quality setup costs approximately:
- €400 for the e-Fin drive, motor controller, remote-control system, waterproof case, connectors and remaining components
- Approximately €300 for a 20 Ah lithium-ion battery and fast charger
The final price depends on the components you select, where you purchase them and whether you already own some of the required parts.
This is not directly comparable to typical 200–300 W electric fins available on the market. This design is intended as a serious high-power electric drive with up to approximately 4.4 kW of available power, while remaining removable and adaptable to different batteries and propellers.
Build a professional e-Fin for a fraction of the expected commercial price
A comparable ready-made product is difficult to find and would likely be extremely expensive. These plans give you the information and files needed to source the components, print the parts and assemble your own high-performance SUP or kayak e-Fin.
A powerful setup for wave riding. An efficient setup for long-distance cruising. One modular design that can be adapted to your own requirements.
The battery, VESC and remote-control system may also be reused for other compatible electric projects, such as an electric go-kart or another future vehicle.
This listing includes digital plans and build files, not a finished e-Fin. The plans are licensed for personal use to build one e-Fin for yourself. Building the system requires suitable 3D-printing, mechanical, electrical and assembly skills. Incorrect component selection, printing, wiring or assembly may reduce performance, damage components or make the finished system unsafe to use. If you are unsure about any part of the build, please contact me before proceeding.
